The average Texas auto insurance policy costs
$932 a year.
If you have a clean driving record
most Texas companies offer a discount. That discount is typically a 25% savings
($233). So, using these averages a driver with a clean driving record is paying
$699 a year for car insurance.
One speeding ticket would remove that
discount and typically increase the base rate by 2%. That is a $251 increase per
year, or $753 increase over 3 years (companies usually surcharge for 3 years) without
taking a
defensive driving course online.
Because of so many factors, it is easier
to simply take a
Defensive Driving Class online and then change your violation information
to see the difference in premiums. In most states, by taking
a defensive driving course
(and we recommend taking the defensive driving course online in order to complete
the course on your own schedule), it drops your points
at the DMV level and those points are never reported to your insurance carrier.
If the points are not cleared at the DMV level via a defensive driving course
taken, then your insurance carrier with run a report on you and see that you have
moving violation point(s) resulting in some type of increase.
Defensive driving courses are not typically
designed to help with insurance costs, a defensive driving course is actually designed
as a substitute for punishment by the court system, but they are sometimes an added
benefit. Here are the benefits of taking a defensive driving course:
No points will be assessed against
your driver's license.
Attending a defensive driving course to satisfy the violation
can be entered on your driver history record as an "adjudication withheld."
The civil penalty you must pay may
be reduced in some cases.
Some insurance companies offer an additional
discount for persons taking a
Defensive Driving Course even if they did not get a ticket.
You can check with your insurance carrier and Fast and Stress Free Traffic School's
Traffic Safety Course in fact does comply with those state regulations as well.
The Decision NOT to Take Defensive Driving
Generally, if you receive a moving
violation, and don't take the option, or do not have the option to take a defensive
driving course like
Fast and Stress Free Traffic School's defensive driving online course,
there may be some type of consequences by your insurance carrier.
If it was your first ticket, you might not see any change in your rates, but your
first ticket can affect your rates more than subsequent tickets.
Generally speaking, in most states, the courts will allow you to take a defensive driving course for your first ticket.
But, once you take a defensive driving course you must wait an allotted
time period of that state in order to have the privilege to take another defensive driving course.
Any tickets received within that time period will most assuredly increase your insurance
premium.
Different companies have different
practices when it comes to raising premiums. Some companies will consider the severity
of your violation and raise your rates accordingly; others will raise rates a specific
amount per violation. Generally speaking, however, all
most all insurance companies allow for a defensive driving course to be taken in
order to save you from rising premiums. Some states do
not allow an insurance carrier to raise premiums for moving violation, but instead,
the company takes away any discounts afforded the policy holder, which in affect,
does raise your rate.
It's hard to say across the board
that your insurance will go up X amount per year if you have a ticket.

Equal
